AV or not AV
« on: May 04, 2011, 12:14:34 pm »
Which way will you go ?
If murderers don't value life, how will they value the Laws against murder.

Its a rock and a hard place that could benefit some at the expense of the bigger parties. But on the flip side it might cause more confusion. Personally I reckon that if something works then dont tinker but alas what we have dosnt always work. Even if it does change we wont see the benefits for years as it will be like trying to pick horses on the Tote Jackpot or Placepot relying on multiple picks to win. Only needs a curve ball and it is all up in the air. Its possible that the candidate that would have won on first past the post could still win on an AV pole. Mind you tactical voters will be the true winners in AV.

I will vote no.

AV is the worst kind of almost PR, where some peoples votes will be counted more than once depending on who they voted for. Seriously I don't see why people are so confused as to why First Past The Post is the best system?

One person, one vote, the person who gets the most wins... Doesn't get simpler or fairer than that.

H.

Taken to extreme for illustrative purposes (and to simplify for my maths ability) with 99 candidates and 100 voters it would be possible for someone getting 2 votes to win.

There was enough confusion when I went down this morning and that was before the parties turned up to make it worse. :o Having a first past the post plus PR up here is bad enough now they want to confuse us more. If AV gets the go then expect Italian Parliaments.

Absolutely, but no one got more or less votes than anyone else.

Well if you want a dose of how bad it can get take a look at the Scottish Parliment results under the PR section. It was derided by some yet they needed it to get seats. So imagine what trouble AV will cause.

I voted a resounding NO. I know I know, how can I make resounding appear on my ballot paper?
Just as an aside, has anyone noticed that you are given a pencil to mark your vote with?
I was having none of it. I told the guy at the station " If you loan me your ink pen then I will vote"if not then no go. He tried to reassure me that if my vote was rubbed out, that it would be noticed. I did not give in. With a roll of his eyes that suggested " you always get one" he loaned me his pen.
Am I being paranoid or is it my age? I DON'T BELIEVE IT.

for a number of yrs I've always taken a pen to the polling booth.
think it was bnp thing which encouarged the use of pen rather than a pencil?
